Important Information and Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where are classes held?
A: Classes are held at the Shakespeare Theatre Company Education and Rehearsal
Studios, located at 507 8th Street SE and 516 8th Street SE, two blocks from
Eastern Market Metro (Orange and Blue Lines) OR at the Forum in Sidney Harman
Hall, located at 610 F Street NW, one block from the Gallery Place/Chinatown
Metro (Red, Yellow, and Green Lines).
Q: Where is the closest METRO station?
A: Eastern Market Station on the Blue and Orange Lines is a block and a half
away from both 507 and 516 Eighth Street SE. Gallery Place/Chinatown on the
Red, Yellow, and Green Lines is a block away from Sidney Harman Hall.
Q: Is there a specific track of classes that I should follow?
A: Not necessarily. While some classes obviously lead to other classes, students
are free to determine their own journeys. The Education Department is happy
to assist you with your decisions on which class to take next based on your
interest and skill set. Contact them at STCtraining@shakespearetheatre.org or
at 202.547.5688.
Q: How do I decide which classes are appropriate for me in regards
to level of training?
A: Each course listing includes a suggestion regarding prior experience. If
prior experience is not required, the class is suitable for
actors at any stage in their careers as well as theatre enthusiasts who have
not performed before. If prior experience is recommended,
the class is suitable for actors who are versed in the basics of acting and
are ready to hone their skills. If prior experience is strongly recommended,
the class is suitable for actors who have gone beyond the basics in class and
performance and are seeking to develop mastery of their subject. The staff
at the Education Department is happy to answer questions and help students
find their place in our program; if you are unsure whether a class is a good
fit for you, please contact the Education Department at STCtraining@shakespearetheatre.org or
at 202.547.5688.
Q: What happens if I have to miss a class? Do you offer make-up classes?
A: Because classes are highly interactive and may involve partnered scene work,
students are strongly encouraged to attend every scheduled class. In the
event that an instructor or the Company cancels a class due to special circumstances,
make-up sessions or additional time will be scheduled.
Q: Do you offer private classes?
A: If you wish to pursue private training with one of our teaching artists,
contact the Training Programs Manager who will be happy to coordinate a private
session. Additionally, the Shakespeare Theatre Company offers a one-day intensive
format of Acting for Business Professionals for organizations interested
in hosting a professional development workshop for their staff. Contact them
at STCtraining@shakespearetheatre.org or
at 202.547.5688.
Q: Do you offer summer courses?
A: Yes. We will announce our summer course offerings in May.
Q: Do you offer a certificate or degree?
